KIDS Next Steps
We Want More For The Next Generation
Salvation Resources
At any age, choosing to give your heart to Jesus is the most important decision you’ll ever make! Below are some helpful resources for kids and parents who have questions—or who have already taken that first step in following Jesus. We want to celebrate this incredible decision with you! If your child made this decision at home, please let your campus Kids Director know so we can celebrate with them and provide additional resources.
Conversation Tips
- Use simple, kid-friendly language: Use words they are already familiar with.
- Ask lots of questions: This helps you gauge where your kids are spiritually. Don’t immediately guide them to a “correct” answer, instead try more clarifying questions.
You want to see what they are thinking, not tell them what to think.
- Remember the purpose of baptism: Baptism is a way to show and tell others publicly that you are promising to love and follow Jesus for the rest of your life. It’s not a way to secure your salvation and it can’t earn you a place in heaven.
- Encourage their questions: You don’t need to have all the answers. If you don’t know, don’t make something up! Be honest and tell your kids that you can look for the answer together.
- Use the Baptism Flow Chart: The Flow Chart, found inside, has instructions to help guide your kids to the decision that’s right for them. Don’t push them if they aren’t quite ready yet or don’t seem to fully understand.
- Don’t forget to CELEBRATE!: If your kid does make a decision to be baptized, make it special and memorable. Give a big hug, take a picture, eat a special dessert, call the family to share the news, dance around the kitchen, throw some confetti or listen to some fun worship music!
What is Baptism?
1. WHAT HAPPENS AT A BAPTISM?
Baptism is a special ceremony in __________that people who ____________Jesus can take part in.
Baptisms can happen in lakes, pools, rivers, or oceans. There is someone from the church, like a pastor or leader, at the baptism who asks the person getting baptized a few questions about if they have chosen to believe in and follow God. After that person answers yes, the pastor or leader helps them go all the way underwater and then right back up. Then, the people who are watching all cheer!
2. WHAT IS BAPTISM FOR?
Baptism represents, or shows, Jesus’ _________ and ________________.
God sent Jesus to die for you in the place of your sin. But Jesus didn’t stay dead. He beat death by resurrecting, or coming back to life. This is the most important thing that has ever happened in all of time! Baptism reminds us of what Jesus did for us. Going under the water is a picture of Jesus dying and being buried. Coming up from the water is a picture of Jesus coming back to life!
3. WHY DOES SOMEONE GET BAPTIZED?
Baptism is a way to show on the _________ the love you have for Jesus on the ______.
It’s kind of like wearing a friendship bracelet or your favorite team’s jersey. You are showing how much you care about your friend or your team by wearing something so others can see it. Baptism is a way to show and tell others publicly that you are promising to love and follow Jesus for the rest of your life.
4. WHEN SHOULD SOMEONE GET BAPTIZED?
You can get baptized anytime after you decide to_____________ and ________ Jesus with your whole life.
One of the important things about baptism is that it should be in front of others. So make sure that your let people like your family, friends, and small group leaders know when you are going to be baptized. That way they can come to see the promise you are making to follow God and celebrate the big decision you’ve
